Community-Points calculation:
Points Action
1 per comment
+ 2 per flag
+ 1 per 10 distinct users predicting on any of the markets
+ 1 per 50 predictions made
+ 2 per friend
+ 1 per rating score

... and none for settling a question??

It's more effort to settle a question than giving a rating.

Replies:

you're right, basically

but community points are rewarded for user engagement on the site. Settling questions is an important task too, but not everyone can settle questions. only super users can do so. I consider it more like a superior action, for which you have the super user status.

other thoughts?

This is a question that I have thought about before but was never able to come up with a fair solution. My main problem is that some questions are very easy to settle and others are nearly impossible. Some questions contain a link to the information needed to settle. For questions in catagories like business, sports, weather, entertainment etc. the information is all over the internet and easy to find. On the opposite end of the spectrum I include the catagories of crime and litagation. The more obscure questions are big news when they occur but the final result may only make the news on a local level. These take a lot of time to find the needed info or to find nothing. I have researched many questions over the years and finding nothing is the worst because you never know when to stop looking.

Any system that rewarded points for each question settled would be unfair because some questions take much longer to research than others.

Solution #1.

Flag the question for settlement for 2 points like any player can do before you settle the question.

Solution #2.

Accept that your reward is the glory you get by you and everyone else seeing your name after the words "Settled By" and by the good feelings you get when you think that your actions may have provided a new player with enough K$s to keep playing for another day.

Suggestion,

Since many players may not read through all of the helpful information provided on this site could the next monthly e-mail newsletter contain instructions on how to flag a question for settlement? If everyone knows which questions are settled automaticly, which ones need to be settled by real people, how easy it is to flag a question for settlement and that they receive 2 points for being helpful, the members may make things a little easier for the people who settle the markets.
