The next Super Tuesday will take place on March 6, 2012, and will involve contests in Alaska, Georgia, Idaho, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia
Mr. Romney’s twin victories over Mr. Santorum in Arizona and Michigan have quieted — for now — what had been growing questions about his command of the Republican field and his ability to appeal to the conservative base of his party.
The victories earned him about three-quarters of the delegates at play Tuesday night, extending his numerical lead over his opponents. Mr. Romney won all 29 of Arizona’s delegates and about half of those in Michigan, where the final allocation was still being worked out.
But the difficulty winning what was expected to be an easy contest in Michigan underscored how the Republican contest has become a slow, state-by-state slog. In addition to Ohio, nine other states will cast ballots in the Republican primaries and caucuses on Super Tuesday next week.
