The World Snooker Championship begins on Saturday, 21 April, with 32 players hoping to survive the 17-day "marathon of the mind" - as commentator Clive Everton calls it - and be crowned Crucible champion on Bank Holiday Monday, 7 May.

From the BBC here are the leading contenders. Who will win - or will it be an outsider?

A scintillating display of snooker so far has lead Ronnie O'Sullivan to another semi-final appearance at The Crucible and with his quarter-final victory coming against Neil Robertson, The Rocket has arguably cleared his most difficult hurdle on the way to a fourth world title. The bookmakers certainly feel O'Sullivan has a great chance of claiming world title number four as he is top priced at 8/13 (bet £13 to make £8 profit) with bet365 and Skybet to win this year's championship.

Quarter finals - of the nine 'fancied' players only two remain, and they will play one another. Of the 23 less fancied players under the banner of 'Other' in this market six remain.

Three-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan needed less than an hour to complete a comfortable 13-6 victory over Mark Williams at the Crucible.

It's beginning to look like 'Other' is a very strong bet! All I can say is that the list of choices I used was that of the BBC.
