As the ruinous force of Sandy begins to diminish, the nominal pause it created in the presidential election campaign is about to fade away.

President Barack Obama continued his detour from the campaign trail Tuesday to focus on storm response. Republican Mitt Romney set aside a planned political rally in favor of a relief event to help storm victims. Both asked supporters to make donations to the Red Cross.

Here is a synopsis of the campaign financing laws for the disbursment of funds they have collected. Donating to a charity is not one of them. Maybe this question is null and void and should be voided among the KTN folks.

I think so. I know one of them made a donation from his private funds. Both of them may have, but I don't think campaign funds are up for this. I don't care one way or the other.

Cici is right. They cannot use campaign contributions for use outside of the campaign domain. Buying a bulldog or donating money to the SPCA is not allowed, nor is donating money to another caritable organization.

This may be a dumb question but, can they do that with campaign funds?? I do know that after an election campaign funds can be donated to another campaigner.
