Background

President Obama’s campaign begun pushing a more positive closing argument for the campaign’s final days, releasing a plan to try and detail what a second Obama term would look like, called the ”Blueprint for America’s Future”.

The plan includes steps to grow manufacturing, reward small business owners and cut oil imports in half by 2020. It's a repackaging of proposals he has been offering on the campaign trail for months, such as plans to use half the savings from winding down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for domestic infrastructure investment; create incentives for companies to bring jobs back to the United States (and end tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas); continue investing in “clean” energy and recruit 100,000 new math and science teachers.

It's hard to break a recession like this one.

Employers added a better-than-expected 175,000 jobs in May, providing further evidence of a resilient labor market despite huge federal spending cuts and global economic turmoil.

The unemployment rate rose to 7.6% from 7.5%, the Labor Department said Friday, as 420,000 Americans, including previously discouraged workers who had given up job-hunting, joined the labor force. The labor force includes people working and looking for work.
