Background

On 1 November 2007, Meredith Kercher, a university student from England, was murdered in Perugia, Italy.
Rudy Hermann Guede, a resident of Perugia, was convicted of the sexual assault and murder of Kercher and received a reduced sentence of 16 years after an appeal. Raffaele Sollecito, an Italian student, and Amanda Knox, an American student who shared a flat with Kercher, were convicted of sexual assault and murder. Sollecito was sentenced to 25 years in prison, and Knox was sentenced to 26 years. Sollecito and Knox have appealed their convictions. Under the Italian justice system, defendants are not considered guilty until the appeal process is over.

The case received much media attention in Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States. There is a great deal of controversy over the conduct of the police investigation and prosecution, the convictions, and the media coverage of the events.

New witnesses called as part of Knox's appeal contradicted earlier testimony by a key witness that placed her and Sollecito at the murder scene on the night of the killing.

That key witness, a homeless man, also has been charged with being a heroin dealer.

The next hearing is on May 21, when experts reviewing DNA evidence will report their findings to the court.

Knox's and Sollecito's appeal is expected to conclude by May when the judge, Claudio Pratillo Hellmann, will decide with a six-person jury whether their convictions should be upheld or overturned.

Knox and Sollecito have been behind bars since November 2007.

As defence lawyers made their closing arguments in court in the city today, Carlo Dalla Vedova, representing Knox, described her as a "girl who has had a tsunami, a tornado hit her" and sweep away her life.

"The three days of DNA hearings, tomorrow, 30 July and 1 August, will be followed in September by final arguments, with the appeal verdict now expected around 25 September." http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jul/24/amanda-knox-dna-appeal-threat

I think this question illustrates how much the "thinking" of the public is controlled by the press coverage of that nation... I always think
of this, when events happen , like when the US had some plane flying over "international waters" shot at by the Chinese many years ago, and Americans all thought it terrible, and the Chinese all thought the plane had no reason to be there (so of course it should be shot at)..
If most of us were in one or the other country we would be swayed by all the brilliant arguments made on behalf of that motive..
So, unfortunately, i have bet against my best judgment in the question before us, as i genuinely think , the girl is innocent, but I fear that she will continue to languish in jail.. I may get cold feet and sell my shares later..

Good call.

Changed the suspend to 30th July. IMO then there shoud be a further prolongation and thats it.
Your opinion?

I hope this doesn't settle tomorrow - it's about to get more interesting. It says "overturned by suspension", but this was in expectation of a conclusion in May.

Amanda Knox case: experts have requested more time to run further DNA tests in the trial against Amanda Knox in Italy

The experts — originally scheduled to conclude their review on Monday, and then report to the court on May 21 — have asked for a delay of about 40 days, according to the ANSA news agency. The request was confirmed Friday by Francesco Maresca, a lawyer representing the Kercher family, and by Luca Maori, an attorney for Sollecito.
